The need to combine two households was the reason behind this project in Richland – West End. The historic cottage, built in 1909, was a warren of tiny rooms and obsolete spaces.
The clients hired us to design and build a solution that would open up the floor plan, create a spacious master suite and convert an earthy basement into beautiful living space. This entailed new footings and complicated structural work, as well as excavation by hand to achieve proper head heights down below.
The results? A free-flowing main level formed by eliminating several support walls, a large private master suite created from two bedrooms and a bath, and a sunlit basement elegantly replacing the formerly dank space.
